Description

Location: London/Hybrid

The Staff Writer is based in London, as part of the Official Charts brand team, reporting to the Editor. The purpose of the role is to execute editorial plans to deliver traffic to and engagement with Official Charts’ digital channels and its contribution to the wider business of the Official Charts Company.

Please note, the role is a full time five days a week role, including a weekly Sunday shift, for which time off in lieu will be offered in the week. The role will require two-three days’ work in the Official Charts Central London office every week.

The Role

Website Management

  • Content generation for OfficialCharts.com, including but not limited to:
    • Editorial copy, news sourcing, features, artist interviews, press releases, branded content and competitions
    • SEO copywriting and optimisation
    • Supporting data research
    • Editing of editorial and PR images
    • Weekly maintenance of consumer-facing chart archive
    • Image/pack shot sourcing, editing and uploading, via the website CMS

 

  • Support and drive growth of the brand’s digital audience reach and engagement across all digital channels.
    • Take responsibility for the updating, promotion, and repurposing of all content created to maximise its reach and lifetime value
    • Ongoing assessment of traffic analytics, competitors and the music and social media landscape, feeding learnings into content plans
    • Maximise website traffic through SEO – identifying trending and long-tail content opportunities to drive organic search traffic, keep long-tail content refreshed
    • Work with the Editor, Social Producer and Director of Brand & Digital to proactively suggest content and engagement ideas to raise profile and audience of the Official Charts media brand
    • Take responsibility for building strong working relationships with partners
    • Maintain and build label and PR relationships with the aim of unlocking editorial, artist access and opportunities for the Official Charts brand
    • Reporting and testing of technical bugs and issues with the site
    • Other online marketing and media partners

Social Media Management: 

  • Support Editor and Social Media Producer to grow Official Charts’ social community through content ideas that build follower numbers, engagement, authority and love for the brand
  • Assist with copy, production and scheduling for social channels as required

General Brand Team Support:

  • Work closely with the Editor, Social Media Producer, Marketing & PR Executive and Director of Brand & Digital across all team efforts in support of department objectives
  • Generate content for ongoing weekly PR activity
  • Police use of the Official Charts brand, through discussion with labels, journalists and licensing customers to ensure consistent messaging & tone of voice
  • Support development of brand extensions as required – creating content and social output to promote events, consumer products, sponsorships and other commercial relationships
  • Take proactive role in keeping abreast of technology/multimedia developments and how they can be used to help us meet editorial and brand objectives
  • Research, learn and feed new creative skills/digital tools into the team to develop the range, efficiency and effectiveness of content we can produce
  • Act as point of contact for editorial and website-related queries and feedback

Person Specification

  • 2+ years’ experience in a copywriting role in the music/entertainment space
  • Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy and proof-reading
  • First-class copywriting skills
  • A track record of driving digital audience growth and engagement
  • A self-starter, brimming with fresh ideas and ways to do things better
  • A demonstrable passion and knowledge of the Official UK Charts and popular music, both current and heritage
  • A pop culture junkie with a sound knowledge of music and film, your day begins online, scanning your phone and the internet to find out what you missed
  • Creative and witty, with an intuitive eye for producing shareable content
  • Comfortable engaging both mainstream and niche audiences, from young Singles Chart fans to vinyl collectors, Afrobeats to Americana enthusiasts, film buffs and more
  • First-class time management with hitting deadlines, breaking news and multi-tasking
  • Inquisitive and analytical, you’ll need confidence with numbers to communicate data-led chart info, stats and market trends
  • Results-focused, you’ll use analytics tools regularly to evaluate performance and adjust content plans accordingly
